Choosing the Right Packaging Starts with Your Product

Whether aromatic coffee, delicate spices, crispy snacks or moisture-sensitive powders, every product requires packaging tailored to its specific characteristics. In addition to the desired shelf life, storage conditions, filling weight and intended use also play an important role.

While protection against oxygen and aroma loss is particularly important for coffee, products such as muesli, granola and biscuits often require an effective moisture barrier. Stand-up pouches offer a stable base and versatile applications. Flat bottom bags provide attractive product presentation and are frequently used for coffee packaging. Side gusset bags and block bottom bags can be particularly suitable for larger filling quantities and robust packaging requirements.

Choosing the Right Material for Protection and Shelf Life

The choice of packaging material significantly influences how effectively a product can be protected against external factors. Depending on the requirements, suitable options may include PET/PE laminates, PET/ALU/PE, PE-EVOH or specialised high-barrier films.

Aluminium-free packaging solutions and mono-material structures designed with recycling in mind may also be suitable alternatives. The decisive factors include product characteristics, required barrier performance, storage conditions and the filling processes used.

Important: The actual recyclability of packaging depends on factors including material composition, individual components and the availability of suitable sorting and recycling processes. A general assessment based solely on the material designation is therefore insufficient.

Practical Features for Additional Functionality

The right packaging is defined not only by its shape and material. Additional features can also improve handling and product presentation.

Resealable zipper closures make repeated access to the contents more convenient. Degassing valves can be beneficial for freshly roasted coffee. Transparent windows provide a direct view of the product, while matt or glossy finishes offer different design possibilities.
